Biography

As co-chair of the Hematology Disease Site Group of Ontario Health - Cancer Care Ontario, Dr. Cheung has led the development of 10 clinical practice guidelines on optimal management of patients with blood cancers, with resulting publications in Blood (Hodgkin’s lymphoma) and the Journal of Clinical Oncology (myeloma). Dr. Cheung has also been integral to elucidating our understanding the value of cancer drug therapies and advocating for access to treatment based on the evidence. Since 2016, he has served as a member of the international American Society of Hematology (ASH) Committee on Practice. In this capacity, he has visited the US Congress for four straight years in support of measures that address patient access to drugs and novel therapies. As a member of the ASH Working Group on Palliative Care, the ASH Patient Decision Aid Committee, and the ASH Committee on Practice, he has advocated for greater attention to be paid to the quality of hematology care, coordinating talks on “Genomic Testing for Clinicians” and “Incorporating Palliative Care into Practice”.
