Biography

Dr. Kumbhare is a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with doctoral training in Biomedical Engineering. He has leveraged this combination of skills and expertise to advance the diagnosis and management of chronic pain disorders, in particular myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). Dr. Kumbhare has established a multidisciplinary lab called the “Quantitative Pain Assessment and Integrated Neurophysiology (Q-PAIN) lab”, within TRI, where he has conducted a series of projects to advance the diagnosis and treatment of MPS. Dr. Kumbhare has also been a leader in advancing research methodology and clinical epidemiology for the field of PM&R internationally. As the leading editor for the American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 2018, he promoted standards for research in his field and established new sections within the journal. He has also served as a member of the WHO Low Back Pain Working Group, contributing his clinical epidemiology expertise to the establishment of international guidelines to manage and treat low back pain.
