Andrea Gershon

Biography

A respirologist and clinical epidemiologist, Dr. Gershon’s research focuses on improving clinical outcomes of respiratory diseases, especially chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. She has generated new knowledge to inform care through the conduct of “real world” observational studies using “big data”, including the health administrative databases at ICES.

Her research has been valuable in elucidating the epidemiology and disease course of these conditions, and risk factors for higher incidence and poor outcomes. She has studied the safety and effectiveness of clinical management strategies, in particular medications, for these conditions. She has also developed quality indicators for COPD and asthma and used them to determine the quality of care of large populations and risk factors for poor quality care.

Dr. Gershon co-chairs the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Wellness Committee and serves on the Sunnybrook Hospital and University of Toronto Wellness Committees. She is also a superb teacher, supervisor, and mentor.
